  From the Pastor

Friends,

A few things are happening this weekend. After each Mass, people are encouraged to sign up to participate in the Why Catholic small group meetings that will take place during Lent. This is a great way to meet new parishioners and to deepen your understanding of the Catholic faith. Please join this very enjoyable parishioner driven experience.

After the 11:00 Mass in Mary Hall, I'm happy to meet with anyone who'd like to talk about the Revised Rite of the Roman Missal/Mass parts. We did a lot of preparation. Now I'd like to know what it's been like for you. Questions? Ideas for us to keep it going smoothly? Also, in solidarity and in prayerful support for all those heading to Washington, DC this weekend to March For Life (many from this parish), we will celebrate a Holy Hour for Life on Sunday evening from 6:30-7:30, after the 5:00 Mass. I hope to see representatives from all the parish ministries there, as well as parishioners of all ages. This is time well spent for yourself, for our country, and for the dignity of all people. Please come along.

Last week, we hosted a wonderful reunion of the parents who have been involved in Life Teen over the past fourteen years. Over 75 folks joined together to pray, to celebrate, and to rekindle old friendships. It was a very moving evening, and one that honored past achievements while looking confidently to our future. (Speaking of Mary Hall, you'll notice two new ficus trees which add to the beauty of an already much loved parish space.)

Fr. Paul and I are very grateful to all who participate in our Friday/Saturday Eucharistic Adoration. We were very humbled when we were approached to have certain times designated particularly for me, and for all priests, seminarians and religious. The other special intentions offered for our parishioners and for the St. Vincent de Paul Society reflect the deep insights of those who guide us in this Adoration ministry. If you've never come to Adoration, I invite, encourage and challenge you to spend this time with your Lord in His Eucharistic presence. Be not afraid!

We have a lot on the burner for upcoming weeks. Stay tuned! (And have you seen the movie The Artist yet?!)

God bless,

Fr. Kelly

New Initiative for All Day/All Night Friday Eucharistic Adoration
Yet another reason to come and pray in St. Joseph Chapel anytime from 10:00am on Friday through 7:45am on Saturday!

The First Friday/Saturday Adoration each month will be specifically for the intention of priests and seminarians and for vocations to religious life, with the 7:00-8:00pm hour designated for our pastor, Fr. Kelly.

The Last Friday/Saturday Adoration each month will be for the families and the people of our parish, with the 7:00- 8:00 hour designated for our St. Vincent de Paul Society and the dozens of families it serves each month.

Come spend time with the Blessed Sacrament for these beautiful intentions!

The priests at St. Mary's want to extend a great "thank you" to the many kind parishioners who sent cards and gifts during the Christmas season. Though we were able to respond to some folks personally, other gifts were often anonymous or the tags were in rough shape and no longer able to be read. So to all, and to all for your constant support and prayers, we are all most grateful.

This Week's Special Collection - Catholic Charities of Boston
Our encounter with the Lord through today's Gospel reading inspires us as Christians to reach out and minister to our neighbors-to become fishers of men. This week's special collection will help Catholic Charities continue to live out the Gospel imperative by caring and providing for the underserved in our communities throughout the Archdiocese. The collection supports families as they struggle to put food on the table, secure child care for their children, and seek out better opportunities through education. Last year alone, Catholic Charities served over 200,000 of your neighbors across the Archdiocese. At Catholic Charities, we strive to help people become selfsufficient. We could not help those in need without your generosity. To make a gift, please use one of the envelopes provided in the pews or visit www.ccab.org. to donate online.

Any gift, large or small, will be accepted with heartfelt gratitude and used to assist struggling families throughout Greater Boston. Thank you for your generous support.

Holy Hour for Life Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012

The Holy Hour is sponsored by the Boston Deacons for Life in collaboration with the Pro -Life office.

Note from Sr. Barbara
With deep gratitude, I wish to thank the parishioners that I work with and who attend my functions, for attending my 50 Jubilee Celebration in Mary Hall. I was delighted that you celebrated with me this joyous occasion. Your kindness and generosity was overwhelming! I appreciated your well wishes, cards, notes and many gifts although they weren't necessary. I love the parishioners here at St. Mary's. All of you hold a special place in my heart (I have a big one.) I love working with you and it delights me to see you attend the luncheons where we interact and enrich our lives and deepen our sense of community. I am also happy to see you attend the speaker series for our spiritual and professional growth. Love, Sr. Barbara

  Religious Education

Religious Education News

We're back to Ordinary Time and back to a relatively calm time in our religious education calendar (barring any major weather events that is!), so this is the perfect season to focus on the foundations of our faith. Children should be continually reminded of God's presence in the routines of their days-and they should also be reminded that responding to that presence is part of our faith. Our individual relationships with God are the glue that allows a faith community to prosper. Children should pray daily to nurture their own special connection with God and then be encouraged to use their voices to tell others about the love of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This is evangelization in its purest form-together we can all participate in spreading the Good News!

Second grade students and their parents are reminded to work on the Home Component of the Reconciliation packet handed out at the parent meeting in December. Reconciliation is scheduled for Sunday, February 5 at 1:30pm in the Church.

Warmest wishes for a prayerful Ordinary Time!
